Declan French works in the School of Management and the Centre of Excellence for Public Health. His research interests are international development and health economics. His recent work includes a project examining the economic determinants of fertility and also on projects involving innovative analyses of indicators of human development. He has also collaborated on studies to improve actuarial modeling and forecasting of mortality. He has successfully obtained a CARDI grant to carry out much of this particular research. Dr French has also recently instructed on a programme to improve the preparedness of PhD students to carry out research in Ethiopia. He teaches Research Methods on the MSc in Finance program.
He formerly worked as a statistician in public health and health & social care resource allocation. Before that he worked in education in Africa, South America and the Middle East.
